Prime Video thrilled fans at CCXP México this weekend with the debut trailer for the highly anticipated second season of “Gen V,” the acclaimed spinoff of “The Boys” that blends horror, satire, and superhero drama. Cast members Jaz Sinclair, Lizze Broadway, London Thor, and Derek Luh were on hand for the panel, where they revealed that the new season will premiere on Wednesday, September 17, with the first three episodes dropping exclusively on Prime Video. New episodes will follow weekly, leading to the explosive finale on Wednesday, October 22.

Season Two returns to Godolkin University, now under the control of a mysterious new dean named Cipher (played by Hamish Linklater), whose dangerous curriculum aims to push young Supes to new—and possibly darker—heights. As the country adjusts to Homelander’s rising power, students Marie, Jordan, and Emma are back on campus, still reeling from past trauma, while Cate and Sam are hailed as heroes. But with tensions between humans and Supes boiling over, the students soon uncover a secret buried deep in the school’s foundations—one that might change everything, which links back to Marie in a startling way.

The trailer also acknowledges the loss of actor Chance Perdomo, who portrayed Andre Anderson. Rather than recast the role, the show has reworked the storyline (via EW) to reflect his absence. In one emotional scene, Andre’s father, Polarity (Sean Patrick Thomas), is shown mourning his son.

Returning stars include Jaz Sinclair, Lizze Broadway, Maddie Phillips, London Thor, Derek Luh, Asa Germann, and Sean Patrick Thomas, with newcomer Hamish Linklater joining as Dean Cipher. Michele Fazekas returns as showrunner, alongside executive producers Eric Kripke, Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, Neal H. Moritz, and others. The series is produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios in association with Kripke Enterprises, Point Grey Pictures, and Original Film.

As for the show’s connection to “The Boys,” fans can expect some crossover, but nothing that will demand double-viewing. Showrunner Eric Kripke confirmed to CBR that “There are definitely ‘Gen V’ characters who show up in ‘The Boys’ Season 4, and there are ‘The Boys’ characters who show up in ‘Gen V’ Season 2,” adding, “We’re all talking and working together to make sure that the events are flowing smoothly between both shows.”

However, Kripke made it clear in an interview with Variety that he wants to avoid making the viewing experience feel like an obligation:

“I live in total fear of this notion that you have to watch both of them to understand the other one,” he continued. “If you want to watch ‘The Boys,’ and you don’t want to watch this other show, don’t watch it. If you want to watch ‘Gen V’ and don’t watch ‘The Boys’ — which I actually know a lot of people who do that — great. They’re each their own story. They each have their own reason for being. They each need to be good enough to exist without the other one existing. But I’m not giving the audience homework.”

So while “Gen V” and “The Boys” may share characters, themes, and the occasional Easter egg, each show is built to stand on its own. Fans of the Vought-verse can expect more chaos, corruption, and gut-wrenching surprises—but no required reading. “Gen V” returns Wednesday, September 17. Watch the new teaser trailer below.
