Rocky Bhai (Yash) returns, but not with KGF 3, as we were expecting, but with a fantasy gangster-action drama titled “Toxic: A Fairytale For Grown-Ups“. But what is the usual thing one would expect to witness in Yash’s movies? Violence!
After the success of KGF 2, the Rocking Star makes an entry as a dreaded gangster in this Kannada-language fantasy action tale. Geetu Mohandas is the director of Toxic, which made its theatrical debut on August 26, 2026. Yash has co-produced this film with Venkat K. Narayana and has also co-written its script with Geetu Mohandas.

The Good:
Yash as gangster Raya
The screenplay was initially confusing and difficult to grasp. However, the engaging factor unfolded in the second half as Raya faced a major dilemma and tragedy. Following that, things took a turn for the worse in his gangster life, which ultimately led to his repentance. But astonishingly, his repentance too came with super violence, where he destroyed everything coming his way!

The climax twist was emotional, where a delusional father repented the loss of his son. Initially, what appeared as a disengaging and unclear drama suddenly turned comprehensible and emotional. And I must tell you, the ending was surprising. It will leave you deeply moved.
At one point, you know something terrible happened. A son exacts vengeance from his father who had tried to kill him. But the next moment, you learn that it was all imaginary! The imagination born out of one’s repentance. The grown son who sought vengeance from his father was unreal and was actually a manifestation of the father’s repentance for killing his son when he was a kid.

I am also amazed by Yash’s striking transformation for his dual role as gangster Raya and his son Ticket. There’s no hero in Toxic. Yash plays a fearsome, bloodthirsty gangster who wants to be the king of the underworld and would probably kill any moving thing at his sight. He is followed by an ensemble female cast comprising Nayanthara as his elder sister, Kiara Advani, Tara Sutaria, and Rukmini Vasanth as his love interests, and Huma Qureshi as his rival. The performances of the supporting cast, including Akshay Oberoi as Raya’s gangman Tony and British actor Darrell D’Silva as gangster Salvador, were impactful. They made their presence amply felt.

As gangster Raya, Yash appeared bearded, rugged, and brawny, whereas as Raya’s son Ticket, he seemed to have toned down his physique and sported a shaved look. In both roles, he was ruthlessly menacing and violent. He would probably kill any man he set his sights on. However, with women, he was cool. His character Raya has been depicted as a serial womanizer with numerous fiery sex scenes. Kiara Advani, as one of the female leads, has appeared glamorous opposite Yash.
Besides, the Hindi-dubbed dialogues in Toxic are mass-appealing, signifying the terrorizing attitude of our anti-hero as well as his predatory behavior. Moreover, Yash’s heavy-imposing presence is coupled with terrific background music and cinematic brilliance of dark, moody, stylized, and immersively appealing visuals.
Be Prepared As His Violent Aura Will Hit You Hard – Starring Yash As Gangster Raya In Toxic!

The Bad:

Let me make this clear. “Bigger cinema” doesn’t automatically mean “Better cinema”. Toxic does arrive with enormous scale, blockbuster ambition, and mass-appeal expectation. However, the exhausting screenplay annihilates as it is filled with excessive violence, sex, and substance abuse, coupled with uneven pacing and scene placement. The presentation of this action drama was cluttered. Also, the surprising revelation in the climax didn’t resonate well with the audience’s minds.

Toxic masculinity is at its peak here. Apart from Yash’s barbarism and style, for the entire first half of the screenplay, all I could witness was brawny men killing each other recklessly in bloody gunfights, bombings, and vicious stabbings. Things were happening at such a fast pace that, at times, it was impossible to make out who was killing whom and why they were doing so. The screenplay appeared absolutely menacing with loads of drugs, alcohol, violence, and vulgarity. Toxic, as its name suggests, is not for kids or even for teenagers. You can watch it only if you are above 18.
I personally feel Yash should have considered having a dubbing artist for his own voice for the Hindi-dubbed version of Toxic. His striving Hindi vocabulary does take a toll on his gangster aura.

The Verdict: A Father-Son Violent Yet Emotional Philosophy That Could Have Been Presented Better

I believe, even after four years of KGF 2, Yash is unable to shed his gangster image. I must tell you, Yash’s thick, dense beard works wonders for him. His beard signifies his dominant personality and machismo. Guns or fistfights would not have been needed in this fantasy action drama. Yash’s sharp and stylish beard would have been enough to impale anybody.
Yash’s intimate scenes with Kiara Advani in Toxic have become the talk of the country! Such were the intense, steamy moments between Yash and Kiara that some of the audience lost control and went wild, screaming at the top of their voices inside the theater hall. The movie had to be paused for an extra 15 minutes to calm them down. This actually happened when I was at the theater watching Toxic.

You will also be surprised to know that Yash is not only the lead actor, but also the co-writer and co-producer of Toxic. It seems that he must have had a time of his life while making this retro gangster drama.

To sum it up, Toxic is not a very enjoyable action film. The high-intensity and confusing action sequences coupled with random drug and alcohol abuse and obscene sexual acts may make it revolting. This movie can be disturbing for even adults to watch. Because of its ultra-mature theme and superfast violent screenplay, many could not grasp its philosophy. For this reason, its appeal might have diminished. Toxic had made a major breakthrough on its opening day because of Yash’s superstardom. But its ticket sales plunged in the consecutive days as word-of-mouth might have sparked repulsion.
Honestly, one can go bonkers after watching Toxic. However, if you are able to watch this film without your mental peace disturbed by the weird instances shown, you will surely feel and understand the eternal bond of love every father shares with his children.
