From The OA to KAOS to Shadow and Bone and beyond, Netflix has a reputation for canceling shows too early. Many of these series have a lot more story to tell, but they will never get the chance. But every once in a while, we’ll hear about a show that was only intended to last for one season getting renewed for a second. That’s what’s happened with Netflix’s crime series Legends, and now, another limited series is getting that treatment. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix has renewed The Beast in Me for a second season. Arguably the best psychological thriller on Netflix since Mindhunter, The Beast in Me stars Claire Danes as Aggie Wiggs, an author who’s grieving the death of her young son. She becomes interested in her new neighbor Nile Jarvis (Matthew Rhys), a real estate executive who was allegedly involved in the mysterious disappearance of his first wife. Aggie starts investigating Nile and soon finds herself enmeshed in a web of lies and danger. The Beast in Me received praise when all eight episodes dropped on Netflix on November 13, 2025. It was among the 10 most watched Netflix shows around the world for seven weeks straight, demonstrating its popularity. With that kind of success, it makes sense that Netflix would want to continue the series, but it will have to go beyond the bounds of the original idea.

The Beast in Me was conceived as a limited series. It was nominated in the category of Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series at the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards, where it lost to DTF St. Louis. Matthew Rhys won the Emmy for Lead Actor in a Limited Anthology Series or Movie, while Claire Danes was nominated in the category of Lead Actress in a Limited Anthology Series or Movie. Plus, several of the major characters introduced in the first season of The Beast in Me are dead by the end of it, so showrunner Howard Gordon will have to come up with a new premise. All we know right now is that Claire Danes will return as Aggie Wiggs. “We always told ourselves we’d only do a second season of The Beast in Me if we found a story that was worthy of the first — and I’m thrilled to say we found it,” Gordon said in a statement. “We loved making this show and our audience seemed to love watching it, so we’re enormously grateful to Jinny Howe and Netflix, and to Karey Burke and 20th Television for giving us the chance to get the band back together and do it again.”

Before The Beast in Me, Gordon served as showrunner on 24 and developed the show Homeland for Showtime. For The Beast in Me Season 2, writer and executive producer Daniel Pearle will join him as co-showrunner. Gordon has also signed an overall deal with Netflix to develop new series.

We don’t know when the second season of The Beast in Me may come out, but there are plenty of other high-quality crime series to watch in the meantime.
