CBS Officially Crosses Over Two of Its Most Popular Action Shows in First Teaser
Oct 4, 2026
The CBS network has no shortage of entertaining investigative series in its library. From iconic institutions like Blue Bloods and Criminal Minds to newer hit mysteries like Tracker and Marshals, CBS has quite the reputation for twisted comfort plots — with more than 10 original crime series currently running. The latest entry to that lineup is CIA, a spin-off of Dick Wolf’s long-running crime series FBI, which debuted in 2018. CIA has leaned on its FBI parent series from day one — Jeremy Sisto’s Jubal Valentine appeared in the pilot, and Missy Peregrym and Alana de la Garza dropped by in Episode 7 — but Season 2 opens with its most hands-on crossover yet. In a sneak peek clip shared exclusively with Collider, FBI’s Special Agent Stuart Scola (John Boyd) makes his first appearance in the spin-off.
The new footage shows Scola crossing into the series in a scene with CIA’s Special Agent Bill Goodman (Nick Gehlfuss). The two are clearly old friends, seen sparring at a boxing gym together. They don’t talk much, but briefly reference a loss that is haunting Goodman before heading back into the ring. “We boxing or talking about our feelings,” Goodman says to Scola.

His interaction with Goodman refers to a new plot point in the series as well: the death of Goodman’s father, revealed to have happened in the offseason, according to TV Insider. “He’s been away from work. And so this is really a return to work, and I think he’s eager to get back and escape some of the stuff he’s been feeling,” Gehlfuss told TV Insider about his character’s comeback in Season 2. “And his first scene specifically is a very physical scene in which he’s not wanting to talk and just escape, physically.”
While Goodman will be seen tackling more internal conflicts around the death of his father, audiences will also see him and his roguish partner, Colin Glass (Tom Ellis), take on new cases as well — which is where Special Agent Scola comes into play. In the first episode of Season 2, titled “The Deep,” the CIA team will be tracking down a cartel member only to find the dead body of a DEA agent in the process. As the case continues to get out of hand, the team enlists the help of Scola — further bridging the two crime worlds. This will be a two-way crossover for both the CIA and FBI series, with both shows debuting new seasons on CBS Oct. 5, later releasing on Paramount+ the following day.
