Disney’s American Born Chinese Teaser Reunites Michelle Yeoh and Ke Huy Quan
Mar 22, 2023
A teaser trailer has been released for the upcoming Disney+ series American Born Chinese. The series stars Oscar nominees Michelle Yeoh and Ke Huy Quan, each of whom played multiple versions of a married couple in the hit film Everything Everywhere All at Once. Stephanie Hsu, who also co-starred with Yeoh and Quan in that film, appears in American Born Chinese with a special guest appearance as well. You can watch the new teaser below.
Along with Yeoh and Quan, American Born Chinese also stars Ben Wang, Yeo Yann Yann, Chin Han, Daniel Wu, Jim Liu, and Sydney Taylor. James Hong of Everything Everywhere All at Once will also guest star in the series with other guests including Poppy Liu, Ronny Chieng, Rosalie Chiang, Lisa Lu, Leonard Wu, and Jimmy O. Yang.

“She’s actually magic,” Wang has said of working with Yoeh, via EW. “I’ve got this joke prepped that’s like, ‘Michelle Yeoh is the goddess of compassion and she plays one in the show too.’ Hey! But seriously, she was so kind and generous with her spirit and also she’s just a very fun, goofy person. It’s just a great energy to have on set. I probably was way too nervous around her all the time, I couldn’t shake that off. But that was also kind of a gift for me as an actor, because she’s playing this god whose stories you’ve heard in folk tales growing up her as an actual person is basically a perfect one-to-one. I was like, ‘I’ll just use this nervousness.'”
Kelvin Yu created the series, which is based on Gene Luen Yang’s graphic novel of the same name, and serves as showrunner. Yu also serves as executive producer alongside Gene Luen Yang, Destin Daniel Cretton, Melvin Mark, Jake Kasdan, Erin O’Malley, and Asher Goldstein. 20th Television is producing the series for Disney+.
American Born Chinese follows high schooler Jin Wang, the son of Chinese immigrants, Jin Wang (Ben Wang), who befriends a foreign exchange student from Taiwan on the first day of school in a predominately white neighborhood. Worlds collide when Jin is thrust into a supernatural battle between Chinese mythological Gods.
