Emilia Clarke Says She Won’t Be Back For Kit Harington’s Jon Snow ‘Game Of Throne’ Spinoff (Obviously)

Jun 15, 2023

With “House Of The Dragon” breaking all sorts of viewership records for HBO and winning over critics, it’s safe to say more “Game Of Thrones” spinoffs are coming soon. The first on the way? “A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight,” which got a series order in April. But fans probably anticipate Kit Harington‘s Jon Snow spin-off the most if it gets greenlit.

And EW reports that if that series, which currently has the working title “Snow,” ever comes to fruition, Emilia Clarke won’t be in it. The actress said as much to Extra in a new interview. “I don’t think so,” Clarke said about reprising her role as Daenerys Targaryen, “Kit, I love you! I’m going to watch that one because of you, or I am gonna tell you I did.” And this should come as a surprise to no one who watched the original HBO series. “FYI, you killed me… spoiler alert!’,” Clarke added.
So, yeah, in other words: no shit Emilia Clarke won’t be back for “Snow.” For those who didn’t watch “Game Of Thrones,” Daenerys went mad as she and her army took King’s Landing from Cersei in the show’s final penultimate episode, leading Harington’s Jon Snow to kill his queen/aunt/lover to protect the realm. Of course, Snow needed to be punished for his actions, so he ends the series in exile, returning to the Night’s Watch to live with the Free Folk beyond the Wall.
“Snow” will follow Jon as he embarks on further adventures up north, ostensibly with fan-favorite Tormund Giantsbane and his direwolf Ghost by his side. At a “Game Of Thrones” convention in December, Harington talked a bit about what fans should expect of the series. “He’s gotta go back up to the place with all this history and live out his life thinking about how he killed Dany,” said the actor. “And live out his life thinking about Ygritte [played by Harington’s wife, Rose Leslie] dying in his arms. And live out his life thinking about how he hung Olly, and live out his life thinking about all of this trauma.” After a pause, Harington added, “That’s interesting.”
Honestly, an entire series of Jon Snow doing more brooding about lost loved ones does not sound that interesting. But knowing the world of “Game Of Thrones,” it shouldn’t be hard for Harington and George R.R. Martin to spice things up. After all, the Wildling culture offers an interesting counterpoint to all the court manipulations south of the Wall. And even though The Night King and the White Walkers are no more doesn’t mean some of their lore can’t be tapped into.
As for Clarke, she has no plans to reprise her role as Daenerys any time soon. And she also told Extra she still hasn’t even watched “House Of The Dragon.” “It’s like if someone said to you, ‘Do you want to go back to your high school and watch them do stuff you did when you were at school?’ You know what I mean? It would just be so weird.” However, Clarke joked, “I love seeing my wig on everyone’s head — it’s beautiful.”
