Inside the Hobbit Hut Woodland Lodges of Alton Towers

Feb 11, 2024

A last-minute decision to stay in Alton Towers had us exploring the incredible ‘Hobbit Hut’ style accommodation that is the Woodland Lodges at Alton Towers.

Located right at the back of Alton Towers Resort where the theme park blends into the serene woodland surroundings lies the Enchanted Village, a beautiful space of tranquillity, countryside and two types of luxury accommodation.
On one hand, we have the very expensive luxury treehouse accommodation which is for those of us with very deep pockets and then we have the more affordable Woodland Lodges which look as though they have been plucked directly from the fantastical world of J.R.R Tolkien’s Middle-Earth.
With a sense of spontaneous adventure, we walked through the Enchanted Village which was filled with a very eerily yet magical fog that very evening.
The weather further enhanced the rather mysterious and magical vibe of this unique area.
I’ve been visiting Alton Towers ever since I was a child and this week was the first time I’d ever stayed overnight at the resort.
A last-minute booking cost us around £130 for the three of us (prices do vary drastically depending on the season) and as I didn’t mind sleeping on a bunk bed it was a no-brainer to experience this unique accommodation for the night.

Woodland Lodges are very clearly Inspired by the iconic dwellings of Hobbits but they offer a nice little interior that whilst simplistic in its design certainly does the job of immersing you into the woods in a magical way.
Sadly, the same can’t be said for the Stargazing Sheds (I mean pods) just up the road at the resort as single-handedly the worst accommodation on site as guests are made to stay inside a small shed for astronomical (hence the Stargazing I assume) prices.
Inside our cosy little lodge was nice little rustic furniture with a bed and behind a curtain was a themed bunk bed, floor and teeny little window that looked out onto a sea of branches from the wilderness around us.

What I will say about the bunk bedroom is the over-reliance on vinyl which seems to be the case for many rooms within Alton Towers Resort. Whilst I didn’t mind it too much you can see where they cut costs.
Down to me, the lodges would contain more rustic theming and centrepieces with the kid’s room having various wooden accents and materials to match that Hobbit feel rather than leaving the imagination and creativity at the door, I’d certainly go out of my way to extend it into the spaces better.
I’d also give everyone their keycard in little wooden carved card holders. Just that extra classy touch to draw you into the experience.

The bathroom was clean and well designed, humble and simplistic the lodge gave off a very cosy vibe and had more than enough space for a family of 4.
Each lodge is a charming fusion of rustic comfort and magical allure, designed to evoke the cosy ambience of Hobbiton. From the curved, thatched roofs to the earthy tones and quaint furnishings, every detail captures the essence of hobbit life.
If you’re a film lover you’re going to be captivated by the aesthetic and the weather was loving us on the day of our visit as the mist was thick at night as it was in the morning as ducks were just wandering around outside our hut, that was quite a beautiful thing to wake up to.

Breakfast was included in our stay as we made a short walk to The Crooked Spoon restaurant and helped ourselves to a nice buffet breakfast that was rather tasty, the hash browns and sausages were certainly flavoursome!
The Woodland Lodges provide a serene escape, it’s a place to bond with nature and relax in the wilderness.
It’s quite a distance from the park and feels very secluded in that regard.
A real film fan’s paradise.
Why not unleash your inner hobbit and embark on an unforgettable journey to Middle-earth?
