Jamie Lee Curtis Apologizes for Slamming Marvel Movies
Aug 4, 2024
Even A-list Hollywood celebrities are piling on to the hate leveled at the modern MCU, as Jamie Lee Curtis recently took a hilarious shot at Marvel Studios. Curtis, who is set to star in Eli Roth’s upcoming Borderlands movie (adapted from the video game franchise of the same name) is known for her brutal and entertaining honesty in her interviews. After an appearance at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, Curtis was presented with an opportunity to take a dig at the MCU, and she couldn’t resist.
Curtis and the rest of Borderlands’ cast sat down with MTV following their SDCC pannel. As well as discussing the new movie (which hits theaters this August), the cast was presented with a quickfire round of questions, including one about Marvel Studios. When asked what phase the MCU is currently in, a mischievous grin came over Curtis’ face and the Oscar-winning actress had her answer ready to fire. Wasting no time, Curtis blurted out:
Her answer broke the rest of the cast and the interviewer. Knowing exactly what she’d done, Curtis shot the camera a cheeky look as her cast mates tried to stifle their laughter. The clip released by MTV on X showed a compilation of Comic-Con attendees, including James McAvoy, Walker Scobell. Christian Slater, and many more, answering the same question. Only three knew the correct answer (with the help of an off-screen producer) as the rest of the actors stumbled.
However, after the video began trending online, Curtis took to her own social media to apologize for her mischievous behavior. In a heartfelt apology on X, Curtis said she has already apologized to Kevin Feige for her joke during the MTV interview. Her full statement read:
“My comments about Marvel were stupid and I will do better. I’ve reached out to Kevin Feige and will no longer play in that mud slinging sandbox of competition we call the internet nor will I engage in the toilet paper promotion or game play that is designed for clicks not content or conversation. JLC”
Jamie Lee Curtis Has Dragged Marvel Studios Before
Curtis is as entertaining to watch in interviews as she is in her movies. The same level of enjoyment extends to her social media presence, as Curtis has previously used Instagram as another platform to effectively slam the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In 2022, following the release of her Oscar winning film Everything Everywhere All at Once, Curtis compared it to another multi-verse based movie which released in the same year, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Curtis joked about her competitiveness before taking several shots at Sam Raimi’s Doctor Strange sequel. While the MCU film saw Benedict Cumberbatch return to the beloved role and expanded the scope of the MCU, according to Curtis, it severely lacked hot-dog hands and a “dynamite dildo fight scene.” Curtis said:
“TRUTH ALERT [
EEAAO
] is MARVELOUS! It has a deep BEATING heart and BRILLIANT visual treats, EXTRAORDINARY performances and FANTASTIC BEASTLY FIGHT SCENES…… AND it COST LESS than the ENTIRE craft service budget on Doctor Strange and/or any other Marvel movie. COMPETITIVE? F*ck YES. I wasn’t head cheerleader in high school for nothing. And P.S. our movie has a dynamite dildo fight scene as well as a very erotic hotdog hand mating dance and rocks. #guessiwillneverbecastinamarvelmovie”
Curtis plays Patricia Tannis in Borderlands, one of the hunters searching for the mysterious Vault on the planet of Pandora. Tannis is joined on this bonkers adventure by Lilith (Cate Blanchett), Roland (Kevin Hart), Tiny Tina (Arianna Greenblatt), and Claptrap (Jack Black). While the cast was promoting the film (and berating the MCU) at SDCC, a life-sized Claptrap robot was rolling around San Diego, irritating passersby, just like the character does in the game.
