Netflix Has A ‘Scott Pilgrim’ Anime Series On The Way With Entire Cast Of Edgar Wright’s 2010 Film Returning To Voice Act
Mar 30, 2023
While it didn’t break even at the box office, “Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World” remains one of Edgar Wright‘s most celebrated films thirteen years after its release. So, good news for fans of Wright’s films or the original graphic novel series. Netflix has a new “Scott Pilgrim” anime series on the way, and it’s bringing back the entire cast of Wright’s live-action film to do voice work for the show.

Yeah, that’s right. Michael Cera returns as the titular Toronto-based slacker/musician/kind of an asshole, along with Mary Elizabeth Winstead reprising her role Pilgrim’s love interest/object, Ramona Flowers. But everyone else is back too, including Satya Bhabha, Chris Evans, Kieran Culkin, Anna Kendrick, Brie Larson, Alison Pill, and Aubrey Plaza. And everyone returning means everyone. Brandon Routh, Jason Schwartzman, Johnny Simmons, Mark Webber, Mae Whitman, and Ellen Wong are back, too.
“Scott Pilgrim” creator Bryan Lee O’Malley serves as writer/showrunner for the anime series with “Are You Afraid Of The Dark” writer BenDavid Grabinski. The pair also serve as executive producers on the show with Wright. Acclaimed animation house Science SARU will be the show’s animation studio, with executive producer Eunyoung Choi and director Abel Gongora on board. Also of note: Anamanaguchi, who scored “Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World: The Game,” returns to write music for the series.
“We’re getting the band back together! Cera and Winstead, Bhabha, Culkin, Evans, Kendrick, Larson, Pill, Plaza, Routh, Schwartzman, Simmons, Webber, Whitman and Wong. A stellar cast, perfectly assembled by Edgar Wright. And, with Science SARU leading the phenomenal animation, we couldn’t ask for a better team for this adventure,” said Bryan Lee O’Malley and BenDavid Grabinski in a press statement. “We can’t wait for fans and newcomers alike to see what we and our partners at Science SARU have been cooking up. It’s going to be a wild ride.”
As for Wright, he chimed in, “One of the proudest and most enjoyable achievements of my career was assembling and working with the dynamite cast of “Scott Pilgrim.” Since the film’s release in 2010 we’ve done Q&A’s, remembrances and charity read throughs, but there was never the occasion to reunite the whole gang on an actual project. Until now… Original creator Bryan Lee O’Malley, along with writer BenDavid Grabinski have conjured up an anime series of Scott Pilgrim that doesn’t just expand the universe, but also…well, just watch it. I’m more than happy to announce that I have helped coax the entire original cast back to voice their characters on this epic new adventure. You are in for a treat.”
No word on when Netflix’s “Scott Pilgrim” show hits the streamer, but expect news on that front soon.
