This is the story of three friends, Vedant (Kunal Vaid), Gautam (Sparsh Walia), and Shivi (Sargun Kaur), blended with romance and comedy. The trio used to live together and decided to go to their school reunion event, where they came face-to-face with their first loves, Simran (Sakshi Vaidya), Gehena (Alisha Chopra), and Karan (Tushar Chhibber), respectively. The Good:
The plot of Pehla Pyaar Doosri Baar revolves around revisiting first love. There is definitely a freshness and novelty in this love story, as we have come across such multi-couple romantic plots in web series, where love birds separated by their destinies reunite on some occasion. But when it comes to theatrical feature films, a trio love story genre is somewhat uncommon. So, there’s always room for excitement when watching these light-hearted romantic dramas. Audiences become inquisitive about whether there will be a happy ending or dejection in the climax. Moreover, such funky modern-day romantic comedies are relaxing to watch on weekends, especially after you have had a busy, strenuous week.
The first half of the screenplay moves pretty fast with several enjoyable scenes filled with youthful banter that are quite hilarious. The humor is mostly situational. The makers have aptly portrayed the mindset of the modern-day youth through witty and energetic punches. The dialogues clearly capture how youngsters nowadays treat love and sex with a casual attitude. This is Anuj Saini’s directorial debut, and I must say, he has done a swell job on the creative side of the narrative.

The performances and chemistry between the newly launched romantic couples are satisfactory, though the casting could have been better. I will be brutally honest here. This romantic comedy will appeal to the urban young generation only, owing to the young, pretty actors and actresses cast in it. The young, stylish cast does dazzle in the minds of the city-dwelling new generation, especially Gen Z.
This rom-com can fill you with the nostalgia of your first love, if you have ever fallen in love and pursued or endured awkward confessions. The visuals are eye-catching, glossy, and vibrant. The high-definition aesthetic camerawork focuses on scenic, clean, and polished outdoor urban backdrops.

The Bad:
You may find the second half of the screenplay a bit dragging due to some repetitive sequences. Moreover, the climax is not satisfactory when it comes to finding “true love”. This is because the ending tells us who actually gets “lucky” in love, rather than portraying the victory of true love.
This happened maybe because the makers concentrated on the entertainment factor in order to make this a shining modern-age casual romance. They may have forgotten the logical aspect of establishing true and deserving love in their story. In short, it is just about “obtaining love”. For example, take the case of Vedant and Simran. You may think, “Oh, they look so cute together!” However, why Vedant deserves Simran, or vice versa, and whether they are emotionally compatible with one another, has not been explored. The absence of the foundation of true and deserving love makes it emotionally lacking as a romantic drama. Even the background score seemed intrusive and overly loud during certain key sequences, which affected the emotional factor.
Nostalgia While Remembering “Purane Din” in PPDB (2026)

The casting of this film looks problematic. I mean, who are these people? I have never, ever seen them in any film, and suddenly they appear out of nowhere to star in a famous producer like Luv Ranjan’s romantic comedy?! These are some new or unpopular faces in Bollywood, who come and fade away without leaving an impact. Honestly, they are so unfamiliar to anybody right now that judging their acting caliber based on this single movie would not be justified.
Moreover, there is a homosexual kissing scene involving two men, which adds shock value. I feel this particular scene was forced and added zero value to the drama. It was just included to surprise the audience and make them uncomfortable, perhaps, which is not a cool thing to do in a conservative country like India.

The Verdict: Entertaining, But An Unfortunate Flop!
Everybody falls in love. Pehla Pyaar Doosri Baar will definitely remind you of that high-school crush for whom you used to attend school daily. This rom-com is a complete nostalgia of one’s teenage emotions and attraction. Although this film is emotionally lacking in its storyline, it creates an emotional appeal with its unique theme. So, the young population will surely get attached to it.
Unfortunately, Pehla Pyaar Doosri Baar is going to be a major flop at the Box Office. Luv Ranjan has launched not one, but six new faces in this new-age rom-com. The Indian audience finds it hard to accept unknown faces, and probably that’s why the ticket sales of this Luv Ranjan film have dropped compared to his previous films. Moreover, the film is running at selected high-end cinema halls only. That also is a major drawback, as the common audiences in India are unable to access it.
I have to admit, this is indeed a brave experiment by Luv Ranjan. As an experienced Bollywood producer, he must know that films with new faces usually don’t make an impact at the Box Office unless their stories are extraordinary. Pehla Pyaar Doosri Baar is entertaining, no doubt, but it is nothing extraordinary to be a Box-Office hit.
