The Bear Season 4 Will Follow Past Release Trend, Confirms FX Chairman
Sep 18, 2024
In the spirit of culinary consistency, Season 4 of The Bear will likely be following the same release pattern as prior seasons, confirms the Chairman of FX. The smash-hit “comedy” dominated the category at this year’s Primetime Emmys, earning Best Actor in a Comedy for Jeremy Allen White, and Best Supporting Actor and Actress in a Comedy for Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Liza Colón-Zayas, respectively – though it did lose the big Best Comedy Series prize to the third season of Hacks. Fresh off its Emmy success, fans have been given some good news about the upcoming fourth season of The Bear.
According to John Landgraf, the Chairman of FX Content and FX Productions (via Deadline), Season 4 of The Bear will be released in June 2025. So far, all three seasons of The Bear have been released in June, with a year’s gap between each of them. Landgraf also confirmed that most of Season 4 has been completed, and showrunner Christopher Storer is currently hard at work on finalizing the back half of the season. Landgraf said:
“It will be. We finished most of it. We haven’t finished all of it, but we finished most of it, and it will be ready same time next year.”
During the conversation, Landgraf was also asked about a potential end point for The Bear. It appears that FX has full faith in Storer (why wouldn’t they after two incredibly successful Emmy campaigns?), as the chairman said that the decision to end the show is entirely in the hands of its showrunner. When asked if Storer would be the one to end the show, Landgraf simply said, “Accurate.” Given the show’s massive popularity, incredible reviews, and immense awards success, it is unlikely that The Bear will be canceled anytime soon.
John Landgraf Reacts to The Bear Losing Best Comedy Series
While The Bear dominated most of the categories at the Primetime Emmys (and at the Creative Arts Emmys, held the weekend before), it lost out on the big prize to the HBO comedy Hacks, starring Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder. John Landgraf was asked for his reaction to the surprise loss, and if he was disappointed that The Bear failed to secure the top comedy prize. Landgraf was supportive of Hacks’ win, and noted the stiff competition at this year’s awards. Ultimately, the FX Chairman said that the Emmys, like all awards shows, are tough to predict:
“No. I think the Emmys are always unpredictable. They always have been, and they always will be. What would you have said if out of that cast on Fargo – Jon Hamm, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Juno Temple etc – that only Lamorne Morris would win? That’s what makes it interesting, you never know for sure.”
Season 3 of The Bear, which debuted on Hulu earlier this summer, divided an otherwise strong fan base. Its defenders argued that Season 3’s slower pacing and emphasis on backstory was perfectly on brand for the typically unorthodox series. Meanwhile, others argued that Season 3 lacked any clear drive or motivation to continue the story, describing it as a “filler” season. Whether Season 3 will achieve similar Emmys success will be decided at next year’s awards.
