With Halloween firmly in the rearview mirror, one of the great new horror shows to debut this past spooky season was undoubtedly Peacock’s Hysteria!, the steaming hit about a small-town rock band that leans into the satanic panic of the 1980s to help make themselves famous. Featuring Bruce Campbell as Chief Ben Dandridge, it was the perfect blend of horror and comedy that worked to deliver a dose of nostalgia for anyone familiar with Lucifer’s stranglehold on parents of the day. With all eight episodes in the can and a few loose threads left dangling, the question fans are asking themselves now is: will there be a Season 2 of Hysteria!?

Speaking with Bloody Disgusting, Campbell mentioned that there has yet to be a firm decision in regard to the future of Hysteria!. That being said, Campbell revealed that the numbers are still being crunched, but if asked, he would definitely return to Happy Hollow, Michigan.

“Well, I am under contract, so, if they want me to come back, I will gladly come back. I think they’re running the analytics now, honestly, because the show dropped and you can get all eight episodes on Peacock. I recommend doing that; get Peacock. If you don’t have Peacock and you still want to watch it, USA, every Friday after wrestling. Friday nights, about 10:30 or something at night, it’s on. A lot of ways to find it. Either way, find it because it is a good show.”

Created by Matthew Scot Kane, the series currently holds a 90% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, and has a Popcornmeter of 89%, so it’s clear that everyone is firmly united in their assessment of the show, which bodes well for a second outing.

What Can We Expect in ‘Hysteria!’ Season 2?

As to what Season 2 of Hysteria! might look like? It’s hard to say at this point, but one of the unanswered questions is: was the supernatural aspect of the series real? No, Julie Bowen’s character of Linda wasn’t really possessed, yet by the end of it all there was that shot of a demon outside her bedroom door.

Then there’s the loose thread of what will happen between Garret Dillahunt’s The Reverend and Anna Camp’s Tracy Whitehead? Yes, they were arrested for the murder of Ryan, but the mob is clearly on their side — which leaves Campbell’s character in a pickle. “That needs to come to a head. That needs to come to a massive mano a mano,” he said, before adding:

“I kind of think we should team up. No, no. It could be good because he’s like, ‘You don’t want this in your town. I don’t want this in our town. I know stuff, you know stuff, together maybe we can get rid of this, whatever it is.’ I’m talking out of my head here, but who knows? It just shows you there’s a lot of stuff you can do. There’s more to it. I think they have more gas in the tank, and that’s important for a show; what do you have left?”

Having played the character of Chief Dandridge as “the cop that I want in my small town,” Campbell would go on to say, “Cops and citizens have not always gotten along as of late. It’s important to portray a different side of cops.” That was certainly one of the more endearing aspects of Hysteria!, as it was nice to see a police officer with different layers – with compassion and patience – rather than the thugs they’re made out to be these days.

Needless to say, the seeds are definitely there for a second season of Hysteria!, but as Campbell said, “It’s up to the TV gods to decide if we come back for more.”

Until the official word comes down from on high, we’ll keep praying to whatever gods are listening that we get more of Hysteria!, because it’s definitely one of the more original shows as of late, and in a time when sequels, spin-offs, and reboots are all the rage, originality deserves to be rewarded.
