‘Baywatch’ Reboot Officially Confirms Streaming Release Details
Aug 5, 2026
When Baywatch signed off in 2001, it had already spent the better part of a decade as the most-watched show on the planet, airing in more than 200 countries and reaching over a billion viewers a week at its peak. NBC had canceled it after a single season, and the syndication deal that rescued it turned a modest lifeguard drama into one of the few American series that traveled everywhere without needing much translation. That global footprint explains why the reboot’s international rollout has been tracked nearly as closely as its casting. Fremantle first floated a revival in 2018 and spent years shopping it before Fox ordered a 12-episode season in 2025, and the network then pushed the launch out of fall 2026 and into midseason. Fox set the U.S. premiere for late January 2027, and Sky took the U.K. and Ireland in May, which still left a long list of major markets unspoken for. Most of them have now been filled in.

Amazon has taken the new series for Prime Video across Italy, Germany, France, Spain, Portugal, Benelux, Switzerland, Austria, Turkey, Canada, Latin America, and India, in a multi-territory deal brokered by Fremantle, as Deadline reports. The agreement covers the archive as well, with all nine seasons of Baywatch, 241 episodes in total, plus both seasons of Baywatch Hawaii landing on Prime Video in the same markets. Baywatch Nights, the supernatural spin-off that few remember fondly, is (tragically) not part of the package. Domestic rights sit elsewhere, though, with Fox Entertainment Global holding all U.S. distribution and no American streaming partner announced. Prime Video’s own launch follows the Fox premiere later in 2027, and no date has been attached to it yet. For viewers outside the U.S., that makes this the more useful of the two announcements so far, since it answers the where rather than the when. Stephen Amell leads as Hobie Buchannon, the grown son of David Hasselhoff’s Mitch, now running the lifeguard tower himself. Jessica Belkin plays Charlie Vale, the daughter who turns up on his doorstep intent on continuing the family line, alongside Shay Mitchell as Trina, Hassie Harrison as Nat, Thaddeus LaGrone as Brad, Noah Beck as Luke, and Brooks Nader as Selene. David Chokachi reprises Cody Madison in a recurring capacity, and Erika Eleniak returns as Shauni McClain in a guest role.

Matt Nix serves as showrunner, with McG directing the premiere episode. Michela Di Mondo, Fremantle’s EVP of distribution for Canada and international, described the pact as a “landmark deal” for one of the more anticipated launches on its slate.
Whether Amazon’s interest extends any further is a separate question. Fremantle handles international sales, and Fox handles the U.S., so the domestic streaming rights are still unspoken for, and a January broadcast date leaves roughly five months for someone to claim them.
