Batgirl Would Have Featured Killer Moth as Additional Antagonist

Dec 16, 2022

After the shocking cancellation of Batgirl, plot details and potential character appearances are now surfacing on social media. Apart from Fraser’s iconic return to mainstream cinema and Michael Keaton’s eventful take over as Batman, Batgirl was supposed to feature a secondary antagonist.

In a piece of recent information that surfaced online, it is confirmed that Killer Moth would be featured in the film. Stunt and combat performer Jules Wallace confirmed the news (via CinemaBlend) by sharing a picture of him as Killer Moth. Wallace was to double for the character on sets.

He shared an image of himself dressed in gangster-mafia attire, donning a chain over his leather outfit. He also shared a photo featuring a large ‘Moth’ tattoo on the back of his shaved head. He wrote in the caption,
MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

Doesn’t seem much point keeping quiet about this now, and it sucks we won’t get to see it on screen, but here you go. Doubled ‘Killer Moth’ in Batgirl, along with my pal Stevie who doubled Commissioner Gordon. Quite a long chaotic shoot, but we had a great time and glad to see many of the US and European cast and crew left with a love of Glasgow and Scotland.

It’s not clear how extensive Killer Moth’s role in the film would have been, but his potential team-up with Firefly could have been befitting. The two have been featured as collaborators in Batgirl: Year One storyline. And since Batgirl was an origin story, there could have been elements drawn from Batgirl: Year One comic book issues in context to Killer Moth’s and Firefly’s live-action portrayals.

Killer Moth’s Supposed Character Traits in Batgirl

Suppose Wallace’s appearance is to be taken as the character’s final look. In that case, this version of Killer Moth wouldn’t have been a technically armed supervillain, at least for this film. Wallace’s attire and get-up appear to be that of a member of organized crime in Gotham. In the comics, Killer Moth, like Batman, uses technically advanced gear and a suit to commit crimes. He even has a vehicle he calls ‘Mothmobile.’

There’s no telling what actor would have been portraying the character as Wallace confirms he was a double on sets. Neither do we know which iteration of the character would have appeared in Batgirl, as three different ones appear in the comics in separate issues.

Batgirl’s recently revealed plot details also suggest that Brendan Fraser was playing Ted Carson’s version of Firefly and would have been responsible for Barbara’s mother’s demise. It could have been that he conspired with Killer Moth in committing the murder and that they were associates, just as Black Mask and Victor Zasz in Birds of Prey.

From the reported plot details, it seems that Batgirl could have been a worthwhile superhero venture, but now, the DC Extended Universe slate moves ahead with Shazam!: Fury of The Gods, Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom, The Flash, and then Blue Beetle. The next installment in the franchise would be Black Adam, starring Dwayne Johnson.
