Jack Black & Paul Rudd’s Anaconda Lands Streaming Release Date On Netflix As Meta Film Falls Short Of Box Office Record

Mar 12, 2026

Jack Black and Paul Rudd’s Anaconda lands a streaming release date on Netflix as the meta film falls short of breaking a box office record. Serving as a meta-reboot of Anaconda (1997), the new movie was released in theaters this past December on Christmas Day and has been a decent box office success that has made $134.3 million worldwide against its $45 million budget, less than $2.5 million shy of the original movie, which made $136.8 million on the same exact budget. Now, three months later, Anaconda (2025) is coming to Netflix on March 25. The movie is also currently on digital platforms, including Prime Video, where it is available to rent or buy from only $5.99. Additionally, the original Anaconda (1997) is streaming on STARZ and for free on Tubi.

Directed by Tom Gormican, who co-wrote the script with Kevin Etten, Anaconda (2025) follows a group of four childhood friends going through a midlife crisis who try to remake their favorite movie, the original 1997 film, in the Amazon rainforest and are attacked by a giant and murderous anaconda. In addition to Jack Black and Paul Rudd, the cast also includes Steve Zahn, Thandiwe Newton, Daniela Melchior, Selton Mello, Ice Cube, Ione Skye, Ben Lawson, Rui Ricardo Diaz, John Billingsley, Cheree Cassidy, and Dan Silveira. Additionally, Jennifer Lopez, who starred in the original movie, makes a cameo as herself.

Despite becoming a box office success, Anaconda (2025) received mixed reviews, resulting in a 48% Rotten Tomatoes score, with critics claiming that its concept could lend itself well to a wild action-comedy, but the meta-reboot fails to open its jaws wide enough to handle its many clashing tones.

However, audiences have embraced the meta-reboot, receiving a 75% score on Rotten Tomatoes from that group, who found it to be an enjoyable adventure, largely due to the lively charisma of Jack Black, Paul Rudd, and Steve Zahn, who turn the movie into a meta-comedy that’s both delightfully absurd and playfully tongue-in-cheek. With Anaconda (2025) coming to streaming later this month, it’s almost guaranteed to continue its momentum with audiences and become a hit on Netflix. In fact, since it’s still playing in some theaters, it could still end up breaking the original movie’s box office record.
