James Gunn Reveals ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 Teaser and Max Release Date
Apr 15, 2025
Over three years later, Peacemaker is finally making its way back to Max with a new season later this year. Now set in the rebooted DC Universe, the mature-rated action series sees John Cena as Christopher Smith aka Peacemaker alongside Danielle Brooks, Freddie Stroma, Chukwudi Iwuji, Jennifer Holland, Steve Agee, and Robert Patrick.
On Sunday, James Gunn revealed that Peacemaker Season 2 will be flying its way onto Max starting Aug. 21. An explosive new teaser was also released, and it features John Cena’s titular former villain being proclaimed as a “superhero” now. It’s unclear what the upcoming season will be about, but Peacemaker’s new status as a vigilante will be an exciting development that will shake up the show’s formula. Meanwhile, a full trailer should be released within the coming months ahead of its August streaming date. You can check out the teaser below.

First ‘Lanterns’ Set Photos Featuring Titular DCU Superhero Might Upset Some Fans
A new look at the production of ‘Lanterns’ showcases an unexpectedly grounded action sequence.
Not featured in the new footage is Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., who reprises his role in live-action from Max’s Creature Commandos. He’ll likely be out for revenge for the death of his son, previously played by Joel Kinnaman in The Suicide Squad. Peacemaker may be a “good guy” now, but that doesn’t mean a lot of characters don’t still see him as a villain. Moreover, Rick Flag won’t likely be the only one hunting down Peacemaker, as Smith’s father, played by Robert Patrick, is set to return in Season 2. How is that possible? We’re not sure, but judging by the fact that Peacemaker now takes place in a new universe, anything is possible.
‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 Evolves the DC Superhero Series
Danielle Brooks, who portrays Leota Adebayo, recently described how making Peacemaker Season 2 was inherently different from the first outing. Additionally, she went on to tease Peacemaker moving to a new universe as one of James Gunn’s “first babies in the DCU,” and is excited to see how fans respond to it.
“You know, when we first did Season 1 of Peacemaker, it was during the pandemic, so we didn’t even do press for it. We didn’t have a premiere. The fans took to it, and they loved it. And now, James is taking over the DC Universe, so I don’t know what’s going to happen with Season 2. I do know that it’s done so well, and I’m excited for the response. I’m excited for the fans to watch it and see it. And I do feel like there’s more… It’s almost like when we were doing Orange Is the New Black on Netflix. We were the first kids to really make Netflix, and I kind of feel that same wave with James Gunn taking over. Peacemaker feels like that cool kid — one of his first babies in the DCU. So, I’m excited to see how that expands and grows. But I can’t wait to see Superman.”
The big conundrum that Peacemaker Season 2 will have to tackle now is explaining to audiences that it takes place in a slightly different universe. As of right now, not all previous films and shows are “canon,” so only parts of The Suicide Squad and the first season of the Max series will be mentioned going forward. Hopefully, it won’t be a convoluted ordeal nor will it weigh down the second season of Peacemaker, but fans will find out for themselves this August.
