New ‘Superman’ Trailer Featured Alan Tudyk as Fortress of Solitude Robot
Apr 13, 2025
Superman just premiered a five-minute preview this week during showings of A Minecraft Movie, and while fans were ecstatic to see Krypto interact with David Corenswet’s hero, they may have missed a major cameo. As confirmed by the director himself, a longtime DC actor made a special appearance during the Fortress of Solitude sequence.
On Threads, James Gunn revealed that Alan Tudyk was indeed voicing robot #4 when Superman is taken to the Fortress of Solitude to get healed by the sun. Tudyk has a long list of DC projects under his belt, including Doom Patrol, Young Justice, Harley Quinn, and, most recently, Doctor Phosphorus on Creature Commandos. Tudyk is Gunn’s go-to voice actor nowadays, but it remains to be seen if he will be seen in the flesh in the DCU someday. However, as one of the most prominent and consistent DC actors over the years, Tudyk getting some limelight on the big screen is exciting for diehard fans. You can check out Gunn’s post below.

As Lex Luthor, Nicholas Hoult struggled to remain in character when one moment gave him a “silly grin” and a “warmth in his tummy.”
Tudyk’s appearance in the new Superman preview has been a long time coming for the actor. He most recently starred in the recent hit drama Resident Alien, but his contributions to the superhero genre are nearly endless. He played Mr. Nobody in Doom Patrol, the first major villain of the series, and voiced multiple characters in Harley Quinn. He also starred in Creature Commandos, the official debut of the rebooted DC Universe. Is there a chance that he could be overused? Perhaps, but as the DCU takes its first steps this summer with Superman, it helps to have a familiar voice on deck.
James Gunn Had One Major Condition for David Corenswet in ‘Superman’
Before the movie’s panel at CinemaCon earlier this week, James Gunn participated in a David Corenswet cover story in which he praised the Superman actor for his commitment to the iconic superhero. Corenswet had to abide by one major rule that Gunn has now implemented through all of his productions. After working with Chris Pratt and John Cena, whom he says treat everyone “with kindness and respect,” Gunn felt inspired to begin pushing this one condition for his movie sets. That was especially important for Superman himself, but it seems Gunn had nothing to worry about.
“They treated everyone with kindness and respect. I’ve seen sets that cater to an actor or director’s ego, and that’s just not something that would happen with David. He is Superman, even in his nerdiness. He listens to old jazz standards. Like that’s what he listens to, just as normal procedure. Like Superman, he’s a simple man in complicated times.”
It certainly helps that the person playing Superman embodies some of his greatest qualities. However, it is also reassuring to know that this is the standard for Gunn, no matter the actor or character. If megastars like Chris Pratt and John Cena can leave their egos at the door and treat people with humility, then so should Superman himself.
