Prime Video has successfully adapted the popular Fallout video game franchise, with two acclaimed seasons and a third on the way. The series embraces a retro-futuristic aesthetic, utilizing 1950s and 1960s elements in a post-apocalyptic world where technology and vast wastelands meet. The show follows several unique characters, including Lucy (Ella Purnell), a naive vault dweller who braves the outside world for the first time, and the Ghoul (Walton Goggins), a man mutated and scarred by the wasteland who desperately searches for his family.

Fallout was renewed for a third season before the second season ever premiered, showing Prime Video’s confidence in the popular series. Season 2 ended with massive stakes that still need resolving. Lucy continues hunting down her father, Hank (Kyle MacLachlan), while the Ghoul heads to Colorado to find his family. However, a massive war is also brewing in New Vegas. Production on Season 3 began in June 2026, and we now have an official update on the Ghoul.

Goggins took to Instagram to announce he’s officially done filming Season 3 of Fallout. While the show could still shoot more, the Justified star’s time in the character’s heavy makeup and prosthetics has, for now, come to an end. He may still have reshoots or additional lines to record, but he wants audiences to know the hard part is in the rearview mirror.

What Season 3 has in store for the Ghoul remains to be seen, but Goggins appears relieved to be done but thankful for the experience. Along with a video where he’s enjoying the open air and music in his car, he offered a message, writing:

“Just took it off for the last time.. Season 3… Gatdamn this felt good. I wish this road or this song would never end. Gonna miss you California… til the next time.”

Some responses to Goggins’s message express concern about the apparent finality of his words, assuming he meant he was done for the very last time. Fallout has not officially been renewed for a fourth season, meaning the upcoming batch of episodes could be the last. Season 2 had softer streaming numbers but was still a hit for Prime Video. However, that could mean they are waiting to see how Season 3 performs before offering up another renewal.

Beyond the returning cast in Season 3, Fallout has added fantastic new talent, including Aaron Paul, Manny Jacinto, Emily Mortimer, and Thomasin McKenzie. The new cast’s roles are still undisclosed and may remain under wraps until the season airs. As for Goggins, he’s got a busy schedule ahead. He’s set to appear alongside Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler as the villain in Miami Vice ’85, and he’s also in pre-production on a film about a rock climber called Batso.

Fallout Season 3 doesn’t have an official release date yet, but it will likely hit Prime Video sometime in the summer of 2027. Until then, there are always episodes to rewatch and game entries to play. We’ll share more Season 3 updates as the show moves through post-production.
