Sonequa Martin-Green Talks ‘My Dead Friend Zoe’ & Taking a Break from Television

Sonequa Martin-Green stars in the new dramedy ‘My Dead Friend Zoe’ alongside Natalie Morales, Morgan Freeman, and Ed Harris. She spoke with Bianca Piazza of MovieWeb about the film, its roots in the veteran community, its exploration of PTSD, and what she wants to do now that her big TV franchises (‘The Walking Dead’ and ‘Star Trek: Discovery’) have come to an end.
In ‘My Dead Friend Zeo,’ Merit is a U.S. veteran who keeps seeing the presence of Zoe, her best friend who died in combat. When her estranged grandfather is diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, she decides to become his caretaker while also trying to heal herself. The film was released into theaters on Feb. 28, 2025.
