Despite Patty Jenkins’ attempt at Wonder Woman 3 being canceled, bringing back Gal Gadot for a sequel is still on the cards.

Wonder Woman 3 is still something that Warner Bros. Pictures wants to bring to the big screen. And the studio still wants star Gal Gadot to carry the mantle, according to a new report by Deadline. DC fans were left stunned earlier this week when it was announced that Wonder Woman 3 would no longer be going ahead, with director Patty Jenkins walking away from the project. Despite this, it sounds like a threequel could still materialize.
“The hope for another Wonder Woman film exists. The question is whether Gadot wants to make it sans Jenkins, and judging from the actress’ tweet two days before the explosive DC news, it sounds like she wants to stay aboard.”
So, would Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot return for another adventure without Jenkins at the helm? The actress, who has played the DC superhero throughout the DCU since first appearing in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, took to Twitter recently to celebrate the anniversary of the announcement that she had been cast in the coveted role. A post in which Gadot teases “the next chapter.”

“A few years ago it was announced that I was going to play Wonder Woman,” she said. “I’ve been so grateful for the opportunity to play such an incredible, iconic character and more than anything I’m grateful for YOU. The fans. Can’t wait to share her next chapter with you.”
Plot details for the planned Wonder Woman 3 remain largely under wraps, but Gadot has previously stated that she wants the sequel to take place in the modern world. “I wouldn’t go, like, to the ’60s or to the ’40s with Wonder Woman,” Gadot explained. “I feel like the past has been handled well, and now it’s time to move on.” The actress also teased a much bigger role for Lynda Carter, who featured briefly in Wonder Woman 1984 as Asteria.

The Higher Ups Did Not Respond Well to Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman 3 Pitch
Warner Bros. Studios
Details are slowly starting to come to light regarding what went on behind-the-scenes between Patty Jenkins and Warner Bros. Film Group Co-Chairpersons and CEOs Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy.
“According to those in the know, it was Patty Jenkins who walked away after receiving notes on the treatment she submitted to the studio. Apparently her threequel pitch had character arc problems that rivaled those of Wonder Woman 1984, which — despite being impacted at the box office by closed NYC and L.A. theaters during Covid and the studio’s HBO Max/day-and-date plan — was panned by critics at 58% Rotten and not a rave with fans with a B+ Cinemascore despite the first one getting an A.”
Insiders have since claimed that De Luca and Abdy did not feel that Jenkins’ vision for Wonder Woman 3 “was the right direction for the franchise” asking the filmmaker to come back with a new pitch. This apparently displeased Jenkins a great deal and, after being told about her treatment’s issue with character arcs, reportedly sent De Luca an email which contained a link to the Wikipedia definition of “character arc.”
