World War 3 Breaks Out At A Secret Desert Rave In Explosive Sirat Trailer

Jan 9, 2026

Neon has released the official trailer for Sirāt, yet another film from the distributor that stands to be an awards contender this season. Directed by Oliver Laxe, written by Laxe and Santiago Fillol, and starring Sergi López, Bruno Núñez, Stefania Gadda, and Jade Oukid, Sirāt follows a father who, with his young son in tow, goes looking for his missing daughter in the mountains and deserts of southern Morocco. Lius’ (López) daughter vanished at one of the wild parties happening in the desert, and he and Esteban (Núñez) end up following a group of ravers who are headed to a final party where she could be. But things don’t go as planned as they confront various dangers in this landscape. Sirāt will be released in New York and Los Angeles on February 6, followed by a wider release sometime later in February. Check out the trailer for Sirāt below:

The trailer shows Lius passing around his daughter’s photo and speaking with the ravers who provide him with his last lead, but also illustrates the hazardous terrain, while suggesting that conflict with the other people traversing the desert arises. This could be the biggest film yet from director Laxe, who is also known for 2016’s Mimosas and 2019’s Fire Will Come. Sirāt has earned two nominations for the 2026 Golden Globes — Best Motion Picture, Non-English Language and Best Original Score — and is shortlisted in five categories for the forthcoming Academy Awards: Best International Feature (Spain’s official submission), Best Casting, Best Cinematography, Best Music (Original Score), and Best Sound. Thus, Sirāt has emerged as a sleeper Oscar contender. Neon is having a very good awards season, backing multiple likely Best Picture nominees and a selection that will probably account for most of the Best International Feature category. Neon’s releases this year include Sentimental Value, It Was Just an Accident, No Other Choice, The Secret Agent, and Arco, as well as Sirāt. The Secret Agent was this year’s Critics’ Choice winner for Best Foreign Language Film.

Sirāt will be competing against all of these films (except for Arco) at the Golden Globes this Sunday, while The Secret Agent, Sentimental Value, and It Was Just an Accident are all up for Best Motion Picture, Drama (with Hamnet or Sinners being the likely winner in this category). But a surprise win at the Globes for Sirāt could unexpectedly influence its awards chances going forward. ScreenRant named Sirāt as one of its Top 10 Movies of 2025 (as well as Sentimental Value and It Was Just an Accident). SR’s Graeme Guttmann describes the movie as being “like a drug trip gone bad […] a wild and apocalyptic epic, mythological in scale but intimate in its story about family.” But it remains to be seen how a late theatrical release could impact its recognition.
