Brutal ‘John Wick Meets Battle Royale’ Action Thriller is Leaving Streaming
May 30, 2026
Netflix is saying goodbye to the absolutely brutal action thriller series that blends the violence of John Wick with the sadistic classroom setting of Battle Royale. Netflix is home to some fantastic action shows and anime, like the recently released Man on Fire remake, the live-action One Piece series, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, and Blue Eye Samurai. But one of the streamer’s anime staples is finally set to leave the streaming platform, so it’s your last chance to stream it. After being added to Netflix in 2025, the anime adaptation of Assassination Classroom will leave Netflix very soon. As the title suggests, Assassination Classroom follows a group of students learning to be assassins. The only problem is that their target is none other than their teacher, and they have to kill them before the year is done. It’s a bonkers premise that would only work in anime but, the series pulls it off. Assassination Classroom is one of the most popular modern action anime, and it will leave Netflix on Jun. 1. You’ve only got a few days to cram in one more re-watch. But fret not, because the series is still available on Crunchyroll. Based on the best-selling manga by Yusei Matsui, Assassination Classroom is a modern classic. The show holds a fantastic 4.8/5 rating on IMDb, with a My Anime List rating of 8.7. The hit anime, which ran between 2015 and 2016, was released weekly on Funimation, which has since been taken over and absorbed by Crunchyroll. 10 years and 47 episodes after the series concluded, we’re all still obsessed with the brutal action thriller, and that hunger was satiated (at least, temporarily) in 2026 when a new movie was released.
‘Assassination Classroom’s New Movie Is the Perfect Addition to the Series

The original anime adapted the entirety of the manga. If you thought people hate it when Hollywood movie adaptations change things from the source material, anime fans are on another level. Thankfully, the anime industry rarely delves into this, and Assassination Classroom is no exception. To celebrate the show’s 10th anniversary, a new movie was released. Assassination Classroom: Our Time debuted in 2025. Not quite a reboot, not quite a recap movie, the film adapts untold stories from the manga and reinstates scenes from the original anime that were left on the cutting room floor. With recap movies becoming the bane of anime fans’ lives, Assassination Classroom: Our Time thankfully avoided that pitfall. But that hasn’t stopped it from receiving the live-action treatment.
‘Assassination Classroom’s Divisive Live-Action Movie

Like many amazing anime, Assassination Classroom received a live-action movie. And, like many amazing anime, the live-action movie wasn’t very good. With the show’s absolutely bonkers concept, a live-action movie would have been very hard to pull off, and the 2015 film fell flat on its face in that regard. The film has a 6.1 rating on IMDb, with a 53% Rotten Tomatoes score. Do yourself a favor and skip the live-action movie altogether, and just re-watch Assassination Classroom one more time before it leaves Netflix next month.
