Directors For The Second Season Of The ‘Star Wars’ Disney+ Show Revealed

Dec 9, 2022

Three episodes remain in the first season of “Andor,” airing on Disney+ now. But production for Season Two of the “Star Wars” show starts filming soon, so showrunner Tony Gilroy needs to put the finishing touches on his cast and crew list. And Collider reports it’s an all-new directing team for the new season, although the show will continue to film in episode blocks tied to specific narrative arcs.

In an interview with Collider’s Steve Weintraub, Gilroy revealed the new directors for his show’s second season: Ariel Kleiman, Janus Metz, and Alonso Ruizpalacios. Kleiman shoulders the load between the three, directing six episodes split into two blocks like Toby Haynes did this season. Kleiman has a formidable recent TV directing resume, having done episodes of Showtime‘s “Yellowjackets” and Peacock‘s “The Resort.” He also directed four episodes of Jane Campion‘s “Top Of The Lake” in 2017.
As for Metz, he’s directed a handful of TV shows, including one episode of the first season of “True Detective.” His most notable credit is “All The Old Knives,” Prime Video‘s spy thriller from this year with Chris Pine and Thandiwe Newton. And Ruizpalacios and “Andor” star Diego Luna have worked together before, directing two episodes of Netflix‘s “Narcos: Mexico” in 2018. Ruizpalacios’s other TV work includes episodes of Prime Videos’ “Outer Range.” He also directed the 2021 documentary “Cop Movie,” and his next feature film, “La Cocina,” will hit theaters next year.
Klieman, Metz, and Ruizpalacios replace “Andor” Season One directors Haynes, Susanna White, and Benjamin Caron. No word on what Hayne has up next, but White has two upcoming TV shows, “The Buccaneers” and “The Golden Cage,” as well as a new feature film, “The Juliet.” Caron’s next project is “Sharper,” a comedy thriller about NYC con artists with Julianne Moore and Sebastian Stan for Apple TV+. It hits the streamer next February.
Even with new directors, Gilroy and his brother Dan will continue to write the show with Dan Gilroy, Beau Willimon, and new writer Tom Bissell, who first revealed on our The Rogue Ones podcast. As for what other “Andor” cast members will join Luna, Duncan Pow, Forest Whitaker, and Genevieve O’Reilly in Season Two of the show? Tune into the final three episodes of the first season of “Andor” as they premiere on Disney+ to find out.
