Home TV News Evan Peters Wins First Golden Globe for Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story

Even Peters had been expected by many to win the award based on his highly-acclaimed performance in the hit Netflix series.

The 80th Golden Globe Awards were held on Tuesday night on NBC, and the winner has just been announced for Best Performance in a Limited or Anthology Series or Television Film. For his performance as Jeffrey Dahmer in Netflix’s Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, Evan Peters was able to nab the win. He kept his acceptance speech brief, thanking those involved with the show for the experience, as well as everyone who was watching.

“Most importantly, I want to thank everyone out there who watched this show,” Peters said. “It was a difficult one to make, a difficult one to watch, but I sincerely hope some good came out of it.”

Peters had been predicted by many to take the award, given his harrowing and acclaimed performance as the infamous serial killer in Dahmer. But the competition was strong, and nothing was certain for Peters. Along with Peters for Dahmer, other nominees included Colin Firth as Michael Peterson for HBO Max’s The Staircase, Taron Egerton as James “Jimmy” Keane for Apple TV+’s Black Bird, Andrew Garfield as Detective Jeb Pyre for FX on Hulu’s Under the Banner of Heaven, and Sebastian Stan as Tommy Lee for Hulu’s Pam & Tommy.

Evan Peters Was a First Time Nominee

Netflix

Peters is not a stranger to awards shows, having garnered nominations in the past at others like the Primetime Emmy Awards, the Satellite Awards, the Saturn Awards, and the Critics’ Choice Television Awards. But the actor hadn’t yet been nominated for a Golden Globe Award before Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story. Some other notable first-time nominees at the ceremony include such names as Zendaya, Selena Gomez, Austin Butler, Quinta Brunson, Ke Huy Quan, Emma D’Arcy, Barry Keoghan, and Peters’ fellow Netflix star Jenna Ortega from the hit show Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Peters was nominated against several other actors who’d already won Golden Globes in the past. Taron Egerton previously won for his role in the Elton John biopic Rocketman. Last year, Andrew Garfield took home a win for Tick, Tick… Boom!. Colin Firth won for the film The King’s Speech in 2011. The only other first-time nominee in the category was Sebastian Stan, who’d garnered great acclaim for playing Tommy Lee in Pam & Tommy. Had he gotten the award, that would have also been well deserved.

But it was Peters who was the winner, even if he was the only one representing Dahmer that got the win. Co-stars Richard Jenkins and Niecy Nash had been nominated for acting awards as well. The series was also nominated for Best Limited or Anthology Series or Television Film, which ultimately went to The White Lotus.
