Guy Ritchie’s ‘Young Sherlock’ Renewed for Season 2 by Prime Video
Apr 16, 2026
While Guy Ritchie has not returned to his beloved Sherlock Holmes movie franchise, he turned back the clock with a new series following the iconic detective during his early days. Young Sherlock debuted earlier this year to positive reviews from critics and audiences alike, leading to some impressive streaming feats. And now, Prime Video has revealed if it was enough to warrant another batch of episodes. It has been announced that Young Sherlock has been renewed for Season 2 by Prime Video, a little over a month after its premiere on the streamer on Mar. 4. Ritchie is set to return to direct the first episode of the upcoming season, in addition to serving as an executive producer again. Series creator Matthew Parkhill is back as showrunner, while Hero Fiennes Tiffin and Dónal Finn are also set to return as Sherlock Holmes and James Moriarty, respectively. Plot details are scarce, but Peter Friedlander, Head of Global Television at Amazon MGM Studios, did tease that viewers are in for an “utterly addictive” batch of episodes:
“Guy Ritchie and Matthew Parkhill have cracked the code on making Sherlock’s early years feel fresh, dangerous, and utterly addictive, and have introduced a compelling take on James Moriarty that sets the stage for what’s to come. We can’t wait to see where they take him next in Season 2.”
With Young Sherlock getting another season, it seems Prime Video is setting the stage for more stories featuring the young detective for years to come. In fact, according to producer Simon Maxwell (via Deadline), the show has only told the “first stage” of the coming-of-age story, as Young Sherlock is “absolutely designed to be a multi-season” endeavor. Of course, the series will have to continue to see success on the streaming platform, but it is safe to say that Prime Video has every intention of converting it to one of their flagship television titles.

The first season of Young Sherlock followed the iconic detective, at 19 years old, attending Oxford University, when he had a close friendship with eventual archenemy James Moriarty. When a murder at the university occurs, it puts him in the crosshair of a vast conspiracy, forcing Sherlock to put his cap on and solve the bloody mystery. In addition to Hero Fiennes Tiffin and Dónal Finn, the supporting cast of Young Sherlock features Zine Tseng as Princess Gulun Shou’an / Xiao Wei, Joseph Fiennes as Silas Holmes, Natascha McElhone as Cordelia Holmes, Max Irons as Mycroft Holmes, Colin Firth as Sir Bucephalus Hodge, and Holly Cattle as Beatrice Holmes.
Young Sherlock was an instant success for Prime Video, with the series debuting to an impressive 84% on Rotten Tomatoes based on 50 reviews from critics, while audiences also rated it favorably with an 83% Popcornmeter score. The series landed on the top of the 10 most watched chart on the streaming platform following its early March premiere, solidifying Guy Ritchie’s latest small-screen effort as a success nearly 15 years after his last Sherlock Holmes film, A Game of Shadows, hit theaters back in 2011.
