‘Slow Horses’ Season 5 Making Silent but Deadly Change That Is Sure to Devastate Fans
Aug 28, 2025
While the spy thriller series Slow Horses continues to fly under the radar somewhat, the Apple TV+ outing now has a passionate fanbase eager to return to the mundanely mysterious world of the scrappy MI5 team. One such reason is Gary Oldman and his Emmy-nominated performance as Jackson Lamb. Adored for his unkempt appearance, unashamedly rude demeanor, and…his loud flatulence, Slow Horses showrunner Will Smith has revealed that the upcoming Season 5 will make a major change to Lamb and his gaseous habits. Speaking with Empire, who also revealed a first look at Slow Horses Season 5, which you can check out below, Smith revealed some news that is sure to have fans feeling devastated: Jackson Lamb will only let rip once. However, what’s sure to intrigue you as you wipe away those disappointed tears is that this fart will be “story-based.” Somehow.
“It’s sometimes about knowing when to hold back. For example, people think [Lamb] farts more than he does… In season 5, it’s only one… A weaponised fart. A story-based fart.”
Beginning on Apple TV+ back in 2022, Slow Horses stars Gary Oldman as Jackson Lamb, the brilliant but misanthropic leader of the spies, who end up in Slough House due to their career-ending mistakes as they frequently find themselves blundering around the smoke and mirrors of the espionage world. The ensemble cast also includes Academy Award-nominee Kristin Scott Thomas, BAFTA Scotland Award-winner Jack Lowden, Saskia Reeves, Rosalind Eleazar, Christopher Chung, Freddie Fox, Chris Reilly, Samuel West, Sophie Okonedo, Aimee-Ffion Edwards, and Kadiff Kirwan.
‘Slow Horses’ Will Make Several Other Big Changes Going Forward
Apple TV+/Empire
Met with widespread critical acclaim, Slow Horses has already been renewed through to Season 7, with Season 5 all set to kick-off on Apple TV+ on September 24. Not only will the fifth season largely leave Jackson Lambs tooting to the privacy of his own home, but it will also make some changes to one of the show’s side characters, Christopher Chung’s Roddy Ho. The new series is based on the Mick Herron novel “London Rules,” which puts Roddy front-and-center and gives the unpleasant computer nerd something no one thought he’d find: a girlfriend.
“We were all just rubbing our hands,” Will Smith continued. “‘Ho gets a girlfriend?!’ Straight away, that’s hilarious, but it’s also a great mystery, because you know that’s not real.
Chris was the least known [of the cast]. And then you put him in a room with Gary Oldman. It was a huge ask and he landed it… Ho could be a caricature. He could be too mean and nasty, but Chris makes him believable.”
And there are even more changes to come as Slow Horses continues to trot forward, with Will Smith revealing recently that he will walk away from the show at the end of Season 5. “Series 5, it doesn’t end things by any means,” Smith explained to Deadline, “but it concludes certain story arcs that started in Season 1, so it felt like a good moment to hand over the show.”
