Amazon’s “Perfect” New Action Hero Returns in Blistering Season 2 Release Date Trailer

Oct 11, 2025

One of Amazon’s most formidable protagonists has returned in an explosive first look at Season 2. Aldis Hodge (Black Adam) plays the classic James Patterson character Alex Cross, who is tracking down a “ruthless” vigilante going after corrupt billionaires in the second season of the hit Prime Video series. Prime Video has unleashed the first teaser trailer for Cross, which is set to premiere on the streaming platform on February 11. Hailed as the “perfect” take on the classic detective, Hodge returns as Cross, a homicide detective and forensic psychologist who takes on some brutal cases that require his expertise. In Season 2, it seems the scale and action have been kicked up a notch, as Cross deals with his most intriguing foe yet. As with previous episodes, it seems Cross will tackle some relevant themes in the upcoming season, which sees him tracking down a vigilante killing billionaires. You can check out the teaser below. In addition to Hodge, the returning cast of Cross Season 2 includes Isaiah Mustafa, Alona Tal, Samantha Walkes, Juanita Jennings, Caleb Elijah, Melody Hurd, and Johnny Ray Gill. New cast members will be Matthew Lillard, Jeanine Mason and Wes Chatham, all of whom join what Prime Video is now deeming the “Cross Universe.” Series creator Ben Watkins is back as showrunner and executive produces alongside Hodge, Sam Ernst, Jim Dunn, J. David Shanks, Aiyana White, Craig Siebels, Owen Shiflett, James Patterson, Bill Robinson, and Patrick Santa. Read the official synopsis:
The Washington, D.C. crime drama follows Alex Cross (Aldis Hodge), a brilliant homicide detective and forensic psychologist, uniquely capable of digging into the minds of murderers in order to identify and catch them. In Season Two, Cross is in pursuit of a ruthless vigilante who is hunting down corrupt billionaire magnates.

James Patterson Rejected a Seven-Figure Alex Cross Deal After Offensive Suggestion

After several film adaptations failed to live up to the source material, Cross finally got the best-selling novels right, with Aldis Hodge in the lead. It’s been a bumpy road for the property, but the future has never been brighter for Alex Cross and the Prime Video series. Last year, James Patterson revealed that, in the beginning of his Alex Cross novel run, Hollywood was quick to try to nab the rights for the story. However, he was rightfully offended when he was offered a seven-figure deal, under the one condition that he made the titular character a “white guy” instead.
“Here’s an interesting thing about the Hollywood ‘Cross’ stuff. When I wrote the first Alex Cross book, I didn’t have a lot of money and Hollywood came calling — knock, knock, knock, knock, knock. They offered seven figures, and I did not have a lot of money. They said, ‘We just want one change; we want Alex to be a white guy.’ And I said, ‘F*ck you.'”
Over the past few decades, big names like Morgan Freeman and Tyler Perry have portrayed the iconic detective in feature-length adaptations. However, it is Hodge, who was “shocked, impressed, and proud” of Patterson’s unwavering nature, that has been able to make an imprint on the character. Now, with a second season on the way, Prime Video has found its new franchise, and plenty of source material (33 books) to pull from.
