Danny Glover & Janine Nabers’ Upcoming Prime Video Series Explores The Dark Side Of Fandom

Feb 10, 2023

About two years ago, Donald Glover signed an overall deal with Amazon Studios. And now, his first output from that deal is ready to go: “Swarm,” which premieres at SXSW next month.
Co-created by Glover and showrunner Janine Nabers, “Swarm” follows Dre, an obsessive young fan of a popstar very similar to Beyoncé. Over its seven episodes, the show dives into Dre’s life, fandom, and the dark and unexpected places it leads her.
Dominique Fishback stars in “Swarm” as Dre, with Chloe Bailey playing Dre’s sister Marissa, and Damson Idris plays Dre’s boyfriend.
Last year, Glover plugged “Swarm” as a “post-truth “Piano Teacher” mixed with “The King Of Comedy.” In a word, yikes: that means this series has the potential to be the most toxic project about fandom since the 1982 German film “Der Fan” (but probably not as violent).
Or maybe just as violent. Watch the teaser below to get a taste of what “Swarm” offers Prime Video subscribers later this year. Sure enough, this looks like a darkly beguiling piece of work from Glover & Nabers.
