Warning – this article contains spoilers for ‘Euphoria’ Season 3, Episode 8.Following an extended four-year gap, Euphoria Season 3 finally made its way to HBO Max in April 2026, running for eight weeks until its final episode began streaming on May 31. Created by Sam Levinson and starring major names like Zendaya and Sydney Sweeney, the teen drama put the spotlight on a group of high school students navigating the dark side of adult life, with a particular focus on the effects and ramifications of drug addiction. Returning to HBO this year, Euphoria became the most-watched show in the world on more than one occasion, delivering one shocking moment after another across its eight-episode slate. The HBO show’s penultimate episode had already killed off one of its biggest characters from the first three seasons, as Nate Jacobs (Jacob Elordi) met his end when a lone shark kidnapped him and buried him alive in a coffin underground. He was far from the only character to die this season as well, as Alamo (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) was shot and killed at Ali’s strip club, and the drug lord Laurie (Martha Kelly) died by suicide during a raid conducted by the DEA. Even so, after everything that went down in the first seven episodes, the finale may have delivered the biggest shock of all. Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Euphoria creator Sam Levinson addressed the end of the final Season 3 episode, which featured the death of Rue Bennett (Zendaya). In a post-show segment, he explained his feeling that Rue’s conclusion “felt like an honest ending” and touched on the fact that many people in the real world like Rue “don’t make it:”
“It felt like an honest ending. The honest ending is people like Rue don’t make it. I think in the end, I wanted to tell an honest story about addiction. I also wanted to tell a story about grief and the emotional turmoil that it can create.

Additionally, he commented on how Rue’s death, which happened due to an accidental overdose from taking Percocet pills laced with fentanyl, includes a dream sequence with the late Angus Cloud, who passed away in 2023 from an accidental overdose. With Rue’s death being particularly painful, Levinson explained that he wanted “to tell the story for Angus and for people who weren’t granted a second chance.” Finally, Levinson also confirmed that Euphoria will not continue into Season 4, revealing that Season 3 marks the end of the series. While the Euphoria story is officially over, its conclusion leaves its stars free to pursue other major projects, some of which are already coming to fruition. Sweeney is currently in production on a Gundam movie for Netflix, and she is also rumored to be playing Kim Novak in a biopic titled Scandaous!, directed by Euphoria star Colman Domingo. Meanwhile, Zendaya is set to return in two massive 2026 sequels, playing Michelle-Jones Watson for the fourth time in Spider-Man: Brand New Day and reprising her role as Chani in Dune: Part Three. Elordi, after earning an Oscar nomination for his work in Guillermo Del Toro’s Frankenstein, will be seen next in The Dog Stars, teaming up with Josh Brolin and Margaret Qualley under the direction of Ridley Scott.
