Home TV News Greg Mathis Sets Up New Court Show After Judge Mathis Cancelation
Called Mathis Court with Judge Mathis, the new series will keep the the daytime judge on TV after all.
Warner Bros.
Judge Greg Mathis won’t be leaving daytime television after all. Recently, it was announced that Warner Bros. had axed Judge Mathis after 24 seasons, booting the show along with The People’s Court, which had also been on for 26 seasons. The news was disappointing for many fans who’ve grown accustomed to watching Mathis preside over court cases with his show on daytime TV. Fortunately for the fans, plans were quickly put into motion for Mathis to remain on television with an all-new series that will put the gavel back in his hand.
Per THR, Mathis has partnered up with Byron Allen’s Allen Media Group to develop a new courtroom show called Mathis Court with Judge Mathis. Word is the show will be available for airing as soon as this fall on the Justice Central cable channel, joining fellow new court show Equal Justice with Judge Eboni K. Williams. Other court shows from Allen Media include Justice for All with Judge Cristina Perez, Justice with Judge Mablean, Supreme Justice with Judge Karen, The Verdict with Judge Hatchett, and We the People with Judge Lauren Lake.
“Judge Greg Mathis is an outstanding, charismatic, and iconic television host, and we are extremely confident that our eighth and newest court series with Judge Mathis will be very successful for years to come as he joins our outstanding roster of talent,” Allon said in a statement addressing the new show.
Mathis also said, “For years I’ve proudly watched Byron Allen build a first-class global media empire. After 24 years on the air, I can’t think of a better company to work with to create my next great chapter. Byron and I are both from Detroit, and it’s exciting to see him build the Motown of court programming by bringing together all of my fellow judges from his eight court shows — who are the best of the best.”

Judge Mathis Says There’s “Power” in What He Does
For his work as a judge on his television show, Mathis was just last year inducted onto the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Speaking on the honor with Variety, he referred to his own troubled past, which includes brushes with the law as a young man. Having since turned his life around to pursue his career as a judge, Mathis comes into the courtroom with a different perspective than most other TV judges. He noted how his background led to him often doing his best to help the people he’d see in his courtroom when he knew they were in need.
“I can identify better than most judges with the plight of the litigants because I’ve lived the life of almost every litigant that comes before me,” he said. “My sole objective in life is to be able to inspire the people I left behind to overcome their obstacles…. [I] felt on a national level, if street youth and single mothers would see me every day [I could try to] empower them and inspire them. I felt I could affect more people around the country than I could a local city.”
No word yet on if Judge Marilyn Milian plans to stay on television after the axing of The People’s Court.
