James Gunn Reveals DCU Multiverse Spanning Trailer for ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2

Jul 28, 2025

Straight from Comic-Con, DC Studios has unveiled a new trailer for Peacemaker Season 2. While many had hoped the DCU would have a significant presence at San Diego Comic-Con 2025 following the release of Superman, James Gunn opted out of a major panel for upcoming projects, including Lanterns and Supergirl. Instead, Gunn is keeping the focus entirely on the immediate next installment in the DCU, Peacemaker. Peacemaker Season 2 received a panel that gave fans a better idea of what the plot for the series will be and also dropped some exciting details about its relationship to Superman.

James Gunn Reveals “Really Big” DCU Cameo in ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2

The second season of James Gunn’s beloved superhero series will feature a major appearance from a DCU character.

DC released a full trailer for Peacemaker Season 2 online after they showed it to audiences at San Diego Comic-Con. The trailer reveals the season will revolve around Christopher Smith / Peacemaker (John Cena) using his father’s old quantum unfolding chamber (QUC) to visit a parallel universe where he is taken seriously as a hero. The trailer shows the returning cast of characters from Season 1, as well as some new characters for Season 2, including an expanded role for Rick Flag Sr. (Frank Grillo), who was previously seen in Superman and Creature Commandos, looking to avenge his son, Rick Flag Jr. after Peacemaker killed him in The Suicide Squad. Comic-Con Reveals from ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2

The Peacemaker Season 2 Comic-Con panel hinted that the series will have some significant implications for the DCU moving forward. The first is that the series will take place one month after the events of Superman. Peacemaker, coming out one month after the hit film will certainly help build momentum and detail how this shared universe can connect and expand with one another. Both Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion), and Maxwell Lord (Sean Gunn) will reprise their roles in the first episode of Peacemaker Season 2. The other significant bit of news is that the QUC seemingly will have access to 99 alternate dimensions, which will include alternate realities as well as parallel dimensions, as shown by the trailer’s reveal of a hell dimension populated by skulls with spider legs. Peacemaker Season 2’s use of these realities has many fans theorizing that this will be used to explain how the events of Peacemaker Season 1 can occur within both the DCU and the previous DCEU. It may also allow for the retcon that James Gunn has teased regarding the Justice League cameos at the end of Season 1. Despite there being rumblings about audiences having multiverse fatigue (though the box office doesn’t back that up), it appears James Gunn and the DCU are diving right into the multiverse, but have found a way that might have even more emotional and character-centric importance than MCU titles like Loki or Deadpool & Wolverine. DC Studios is certainly riding a high following the positive critical and box office performance of Superman, and if Peacemaker Season 2 is anything like the previous season, the franchise is going to be on a hot streak.
