Jon Bernthal To Return As The Punisher In Marvel Studios’ Upcoming Series

Mar 7, 2023

Okay, folks, it really does seem as if Marvel Studios is giving fans a Netflix reunion over in “Daredevil: Born Again.” Not only are we getting Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio, but apparently, we’re also going to see the return of none other than Jon Bernthal as the Punisher.

According to THR, Jon Bernthal is the latest actor to join the upcoming Disney+/Marvel Studios series, “Daredevil: Born Again.” As mentioned, this is a reunion of sorts, as Bernthal played Frank Castle, aka the Punisher, for multiple seasons of TV over on Netflix during the “Defenders” era of Marvel shows. He debuted in Season 2 of “Daredevil” and then spun off into his own show for two seasons. While the quality of “The Punisher” wasn’t particularly amazing (it’s solid, for sure), Bernthal’s performance is unquestionably great. The actor seems born to play Frank Castle and should be a welcome addition to whatever Marvel Studios has cooked up for ‘Born Again.’

Not much is known about the plot of “Daredevil: Born Again” other than the casting and the comic book inspiration. The most famous storyline in all of “Daredevil” comics is ‘Born Again,’ which tells the story of Matt Murdock, famous lawyer and superhero, who gets everything ripped away from him after Kingpin learns his secret identity. Murdock has to scratch and claw his way back from near death to reclaim his life and take down his enemies. Marvel Studios is known for taking those comic book inspirations and adapting quite a bit of it for films and TV series. “Daredevil: Born Again” is expected to run 18 episodes when it debuts sometime in 2024.
Of course, you can’t talk about Bernthal rejoining Cox and D’Onofrio without thinking about who else might show up. Are we thinking Krysten Ritter will come back as Jessica Jones? That’s been heavily rumored but not yet confirmed. Perhaps we’ll see Mike Colter return as Luke Cage, which yet again, has been rumored. At this point, we have to wonder if everyone, including Finn Jones’ Iron Fist, could be making a comeback.
Well, almost everyone. The report claims that Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Henson, who appear as Karen Page and Foggy Nelson, respectively, in the Netflix “Daredevil” are not returning. Though, it’s not known if the roles are being recast or if those characters will even show up in the new series.
We’ll find out soon enough, as “Daredevil: Born Again” is expected to hit Disney+ in Spring 2024.
