Krysten Ritter Officially Returning As Jessica Jones For ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Season 2

May 13, 2025

Charlie Cox confirmed on a red carpet press line this afternoon that “Daredevil” season two would include some fun cameos, and just two hours later, Krysten Ritter has been revealed to be officially back as Jessica Jones for the Marvel Disney+ show.
The announcement was made during Disney’s upfront presentation to advertisers in New York on Tuesday. Ritter joined Cox on the stage to reveal she would be returning as the hard-drinking detective hero in “Daredevil: Born Again” season two.

“It’s so great to be back, returning to Jessica after three seasons and ‘The Defenders’ and now joining the MCU,” Ritter said. “I’m so excited to bring back this iconic character, and without giving too much away, there is much more in store for Jessica Jones. This is going to be an incredible season!”
Ritter will be the second Marvel hero to reprise her role from the Netflix era of Marvel TV, which ended in 2019 for “Jessica Jones” with its third season.
Fans have been pining for these characters to return to their roles for the Marvel iterations of this superhero universe, and so far, it’s three down—Cox as Daredevil, Jon Bernthal as Punisher and Kristen Ritter as Jones—and two to potentially go.
“Jessica Jones” ran for three seasons between 2015 and 2019. Ritter also appeared in the crossover miniseries “The Defenders” (2017), which included all the Netflix Marvel characters.
Ritter’s Jones on the show is a former superhero with superhuman strength and limited flight abilities, suffering from PTSD and trauma, who runs her own detective agency.
Essentially a functional alcoholic, Ritter described the character as “very rough around the edges, and dry and sarcastic and a total asshole sometimes. But I think at her core she’s a good person,” in 2015.
The remaining two Netflix-era Marvel characters, Iron Fist and Luke Cage, were played by Finn Jones and Mike Colter, respectively.  Both series, “Iron Fist” and “Luke Cage,” were not as well received critically, and there’s been speculation that both these roles will be recast, but there’s definitely been no concrete evidence to that end.
In fact, Colter has received great notices in the critically acclaimed Paramount+ show “Evil,” so it’s possible he could return, too, at least.

Part of the Netflix-Marvel deal included a provision that prevented the characters featured in the shows from appearing in any non-Netflix series or film for at least two years after cancellation, but it’s been around five years now since all those shows were deep-sixed, so Marvel is free to use any and all of them.
Most of the original “Daredevil” cast returned for “Daredevil: Born Again,” including Vincent D’Onofrio as the Kingpin, Bernthal as the aforementioned Punisher, plus Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, Wilson Bethel, Ayelet Zurer and more.
During the red carpet appearance, Cox, who plays Matt Murdock/Daredevil, also revealed he will not be appearing in “Avengers: Doomsday” (see the clip below). Part of that reason is likely because ‘Doomsday’ is shooting now, and as is “Daredevil: Born Again” season two, which is expected to air sometime in 2026 on Disney+.
