Sky Renews ‘Saturday Night Live UK’ for Season 2
May 8, 2026
In March 2026, Saturday Night Live took a new step outside the usual confines of New York City for the first season of Saturday Night Live U.K., set in the United Kingdom’s capital city, London. Using a format similar to the American version of the show, which has run for over 50 years and aired over 1,000 episodes, the new spin-off features the U.K.’s best sketch comedy performers and musical performances, bringing in major celebrities every week to help bring barrels of laughs. The series brought on Bridgerton’s Nicola Coughlan (who later hosted Episode 5) and Regé-Jean Page to kick off the festivities, with other episodes hosted by Jamie Dornan (Fifty Shades of Grey), Riz Ahmed (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), and Jack Whitehall (Jungle Cruise). SNL U.K. Season 1 had a rough start after its opening episode, with critics and fans sharing less-than-stellar reviews about what they saw across the season. From unimpressive impersonations to jokes about loss of life that came off as somewhat insensitive, the show went through its ups and downs over its first season, which will air its eighth and final episode on May 16. Now, even after such a wide range of reactions from the viewing public, Sky UK Limited has come to a decision on the spin-off’s fate As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Saturday Night Live U.K. has officially been renewed for a second season before the end of Season on May 16. Sky ordered 12 new episodes for Season 2 after initially delivering eight in Season 1. The show will begin airing again in Sept. 2026 and will run until early 2027.
Executive producer Lorne Michaels also commented on the show’s success, saying he is “incredibly proud” of the team and that it “keeps getting better every week.” He continued to share his gratitude for Sky CEO Dana Strong for “believing in and supporting” the series, noting that he is “excited for the season ahead. Sky executive producer, unscripted originals Phil Edgar-Jones gave credit to Michaels and his producing team, along with the cast and writers, for making this spin-off “Sky’s most talked about show of the year” and “firmly part of the cultural conversation.” Looking ahead, Season 1 has two episodes left to air, with Episode 7 (May 9) set to be hosted by Emmy-winning Ted Lasso star Hannah Waddingham and Episode 8 by Ncuti Gatwa, who starred as the 15th Doctor in the BBC’s Doctor Who. While hosts and musical guests for Season 2 have yet to be revealed, the spin-off has a chance to look back at things from Season 1 that can be changed and make an even better viewing experience for those looking for laughs from the British crop of A-list talent.
Season 1 of SNL U.K. is now streaming on Peacock, and Season 2 will begin airing in Fall 2026.
