The #1 Streaming Service Officially Crowned After Breaking Major Milestone
Jul 9, 2026
On May 8, the nominees for the 2026 Emmy Awards were officially announced, celebrating excellence across the entire streaming world for releases from 2025. Major players like Disney and Amazon hit big on the nomination front, with Disney earning 111 nominations from shows on ABC, FX, Hulu, Disney+, and Nat Geo. Amazon more than doubled its nomination total from last year, going from 12 to 28 with the success of hit projects like Spider-Noir. Much of that success comes in the streaming world, which has only become a bigger piece of mainstream culture over the last decade. Original programming on platforms like Disney+, Prime Video, HBO Max, and more continues to drive entertainment conversations across social media, as these series offer viewers countless new story options alongside classic TV shows and theatrically released movies. While this year is far from over in terms of new releases, the time has also come to offer praise and recognition to the best of the best from TV last year, particularly in the streaming realm. At the 2026 Emmy Awards, Apple TV earned 87 nominations across comedy and drama (89 total nominations across all categories, including commercials). This marks the most comedy and drama nominations of any major streamer in the industry. Overall, Apple TV ranked third in television nominations with 87, only trailing HBO Max’s 122 nods and Netflix’s 111 nods.
Looking closer at the nominations, Apple TV has three shows nominated for Outstanding Drama: Pluribus, Slow Horses, and Your Friends & Neighbors. Overall, Apple TV also has the third and fourth-most nominated shows in the entire field, Widow’s Bay (19 nominations) and Pluribus (18 nominations), only trailing HBO Max’s The Pitt (25) and Hacks (24). Additionally, the streaming giant earned two nominations in the Outstanding Lead Actor and Actress categories, with Rhea Seehorn getting nominated for Pluribus and Gary Oldman reaching that same status for his work on Slow Horses. Meanwhile, Apple TV still has plenty of exciting new original material prepped for release in the second half of 2026. This includes Anya Taylor-Joy and Annette Bening’s Lucky arriving to the small screen on Jul. 15, along with Slow Horses Season 6 debuting in September 2026. Additionally, Ted Lasso, one of Apple TV’s biggest hits ever, will make its long-awaited return for Season 4 on Aug. 5, giving Emmy-winners Jason Sudeikis, Hannah Waddingham, and more the chance to return to AFC Richmond for a new round of football-inspired mayhem.
The 78th Primetime Emmy Awards show will take place on Sept. 14, 2026, at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, California.
