Netflix Has Found Huge Global Success With Shows From South Korea
Netflix has found huge success in shows that hail from South Korea, most notably with the monster hit that is Squid Game. Now one of the most popular shows to ever debut on the streamer, Squid Game centers on a contest in which 456 players, drawn from different walks of life but each deeply in debt, play a set of children’s games with deadly consequences in the hopes of winning a 45.6 billion Won prize. Created by Hwang Dong-hyuk, the first season of the show was met with critical acclaim, with a second season debuting last year, and a third and final season set to begin on the streamer today, June 27. South Korea is also often the place to be when it comes to thrilling action, with the recent Netflix series Mercy for None proving to be hugely popular with both critics and audiences alike. Based on the webtoon Plaza Wars: Mercy for None by O Se-hyung and Kim Gyun-tae, this South Korean limited series follows a legendary mob enforcer who, after “severing ties with his gang, a former gangster returns to uncover the truth behind his brother’s death, embarking on a relentless path of revenge,” the official synopsis reads. Mercy for None boasts a score of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, and is perfect for any genre fan looking for their John Wick-esque fix. Source: Netflix
